Tips For Betting Summer League, Book Dodges Six-Figure Wimbledon Liability

STN Sportsbooks continue to set the standard in the industry with its betting options, originality and endless stream of prop bets, even when three of the big four sports are on hiatus. On Sunday, for instance, we offered a 10% odds boost on the moneyline for either side of the Concacaf Gold Cup Game.

“The handle was great on that game,” said Chuck Esposito, Station Casinos Sports Book Director, conceding that guests got the better of the House with Mexico’s 2-1 win. “We were USA fans, but it was fun to have that game on our screens. Anytime we have an added event, especially this time of year, it helps.”

With all that in mind, let’s quickly review the past week in sports and peek at what’s ahead on the STN Sports App and the STN Sports Books…

Summer League

The hoopers are here. This week, the NBA Summer League is tipping off in Vegas, turning the Thomas and Mack Center into a who’s who of young talent (which is how Leonardo DiCaprio likes it). Granted, Summer League has been happening in other cities, but the interest pales compared to when the games come to the desert.

“Summer League has been good, but once it gets out here, that just really changes everything, as all events do with Vegas being a Sports Capital now,” Esposito said. “Any event that’s out here just generates way more interest and handle.” When NBA Summer League games are played here, the handle is quadrupled as opposed to when games are played in Salt Lake City or San Francisco. Having said that, we all know that the Summer League is made for young players dipping their toes into NBA waters, not veterans, so how should we handicap these games? Well, experience matters.

“The key to me is really looking at guys that have some NBA experience and G League experience that are looking to play,” Esposito said. “It’s tough for a lot of these rookies because they’re going right from one-and-done in college to Summer League. Look for roster experience and the depth of the roster.”

Wimbledon

There’s nothing like live tennis… in person or on the STN App. During Wimbledon, the app has been changing odds in real-time, allowing guests to bet on their player even after matches have started.

“The live wagering aspect of tennis is big, as it has been in golf and other sports as well. Those have all been sports that we’ve seen an uptick in handle on from the live wagering aspect of it,” Esposito said. When the tournament at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club began, the Book had liability on Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik from the men’s side and Belarusian player Aryna Sabalenka and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova from the women’s side. Bublik got knocked out in the first round, getting shut down like I-15 during another repaving, but Sabalenka, the top female player in the world and overall favorite, rolls on.” Alexandrova, meanwhile, had a six-figure liability before getting bounced on Monday.

“She ended up becoming the largest liability,” Esposito said. “We get a good handle on Wimbledon, the French Open and US Open, but Wimbledon would be No. 1.

Bets To Know

With Major League Baseball’s All-Star game and all its festivities being held next week in Atlanta, there’s no better time than now to make the STN App your home base. “The home run hitting contest continues to draw more and more interest and become more popular with the guests each and every year,” Esposito said. Be it the All-Star Game, the Derby or other festivities at Truist Park, there will be ample wagering options for guests.

Weekly Winners

A Santa Fe Station guest now has more cheddar than a Capriottis sandwich. Over the weekend, the guest took a $12,000 shot at a six-leg parlay consisting of one WNBA game (Sparks/Fever over 163) and five Major League Baseball games (Tigers, Blue Jays, Cardinals/Cubs over 11.5, Red Sox/Nationals over 10 and Yankees/Mets over 9). The guest walked with a cool payday of $42,373.
